As part of the 70th anniversary celebrations of Security Bank Corp. (SBC), SBC staff, along with partners from MUFG Manila, Bank of Ayudhya, Bank Danamon and VietinBank, challenged themselves to run more than 70 kilometers in support of Security Bank’s mission to provide opportunities for education for Filipinos. The event also celebrated the fifth anniversary of the partnership between SBC and MUFG.

To respect physical distancing, those who participated in the “virtual races” had the possibility of running anytime, anywhere. Each race opportunity had to have the “3 D’s” of distance, date and duration to qualify within the 70 kilometer required.

Beyond the camaraderie between partners, the SBC virtual race also pushed participants to adopt an active lifestyle despite the pandemic. Additionally, proceeds from the race have contributed to the International Care Ministries (ICM) “Transform” and “Family Academy” programs that improve the lives of poor families in Iloilo City, Philippines.

“Transform” is a four-month, community-based adult education program based on values, health and livelihoods. The beneficiaries were underserved families in Balud, Liloan-Zaraga. “Family Academy” is a parent-child community coaching initiative in Calahunan-Mandurriao and Botongan, Estancia that has empowered parents to become their children’s first teachers.

ICM would make regular home visits to program participants in an effort to monitor their progress from the weekly trainings. It would also provide fortified weekly meals and address logistical issues related to training sessions for program participants.

This year, SBC and MUFG would celebrate six years of strategic partnership, connecting global expertise with local talent.
