Rebel Lady NPA killed in Aklan

ILOILO CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in a clash with the Philippine army in Aklan province on Friday afternoon.

The NPA rebel was the sole victim of a 15-minute standoff between troops from the 12th Infantry Battalion (12 IB) and the NPA in the town of Libacao that afternoon.

Captain Kim Apitong, spokesman for the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID), said the rebel has still not been identified.

“She is not Geralyn Gilbaliga. We are still trying to identify his identity,” Apitong added in a statement released Sunday, April 3.

Near the dead NPA rebel was a shotgun, 5.56 ammunition, backpack, personal effects and NPA paraphernalia.

The rebel was one of three NPA rebels killed in two separate clashes in the Western Visayas region on the same day.

The other two people killed were a husband and wife from the town of Himamaylan in the province of Negros Occidental. They have been identified as Elbert Nicolas Quillanos and his wife Jessa Luiso Quillano.

The 3ID hierarchy hailed the government troops while assuring that the army will continue to pursue the communist rebels.

“We will continue to hunt the remaining terrorist group,” said Major General Benedict Arevalo, 3ID’s overall commander.
