PBBM ‘on top’ despite controversies, says Salceda – Manila Bulletin

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. remains “on top” when it comes to dealing with various government agencies.

Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda

Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda made the claim Wednesday, Aug. 17 amid headline-grabbing controversies over the botched import of sugar and the purchase of outdated, outdated laptops. awards for public school teachers.

“The fact that the sugar order did not go through despite the signatures of all the members, due to the decision of PBBM (Marcos), shows that he is ultimately responsible and on top of things”, Salceda said.

He was referring to the attempt by the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) to import 300,000 metric tons (MT) of sugar, which Malacañang later declared unauthorized and therefore rejected.

“On the DepEd (Department of Education) issues, they happened before Vice President Sara (Vice President Sara Duterte) took office,” Salceda said, this time referring to the problem of the laptop which was mainly linked to the purchasing department of the Ministry of Budget and Management (PS-DBM).

Marcos temporarily acts as secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA), while Duterte is the DepEd secretary.

“Nor would I give much credence to a plot to sabotage the administration. PBBM seems focused on solutions, not speculation. Let’s follow his lead,” said Salceda, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

“What we should assess PBBM and VP Sara on is the completion of internal investigations, internal reforms to prevent similar incidents from occurring and their actions to meet the societal needs assigned to their agencies.

“Again, let’s not be distracted by baseless speculation. PBBM, Vice President Sara and those of us in government have real issues to deal with,” the Bicolano added.
