NIA to release water from Magat dam amid continued rains
The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) announced on Saturday that it would release water from the Magat dam in Isabela amid continuous rains brought by the low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon .
In a notice, the NIA added that the NIA-Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MARIIS), in coordination with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), is for Local Government Units (LGUs) ) and the Disaster Risk Management offices will discharge at least 200 cubic meters of water from the dam beginning at 2 p.m. this Sunday.
“Due to the LPA/South West monsoon in the area, the water level of the Magat Dam reservoir is rising. To maintain a safe water level at the reservoir, the NIA-MARIIS will release 200 cubic meters of water The amount of water may increase depending on the monitored rainfall in the Magat watershed,” the NIA said.
The NIA also advised the public to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Hundreds of commuters were stranded on Friday as many roads became impassable due to flooded streets caused by heavy rain.
