Hundreds of Quezon City residents flocked to city hall on Friday, October 29 for the alleged distribution of cash aid under the municipal government’s “Pangkabuhayang QC” program which turned out to be fake news .

According to a DZBB report, residents lined up at the town hall hoping to receive cash assistance of around 20,000 pesos to start a small business.

But the local government made it clear that there was no payment that would occur. Instead, it simply accepts applications for the “Pangkabuhayan QC” program.

“We would like to clarify that there is NO CASHOUT / PAYMENT that is given. Instead, the Office for the Development and Promotion of Small Businesses and Co-operatives (SBCDPO) only accepts application forms that will always be subject to a review and assessment process to identify qualified candidates, ”he said in a statement.

“As a result, people gathered today at Quezon City Hall, without an application form, in the hope of receiving outright financial assistance. However, we reiterate that the program requires a verification process where application forms must be submitted in order to verify if the person’s current / planned business is legitimate or if there are duplicate requests from the same household ”, a he added.

The city government has apologized for the incident which has forced people to queue since Thursday night in hopes of receiving financial assistance.

“On behalf of SBCDPO, we sincerely apologize for this incident. We are managing the situation now to ensure that only applicants are online and basic health protocols are implemented, ”he said.

“We will implement additional measures to ensure that this does not happen again on the last day of filing an application,” he added.
