French Minister of Health tests positive for COVID-19

French Minister of Health Olivier Veran announced on Thursday that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

The Minister of Health had carried out both a self-test and an antigen test, after showing mild symptoms.

On Wednesday, he was alerted by the French telephone application TousAntiCovid (Tous contre le Covid) that he had had contact with a positive case.

On his social media account, Veran said he would self-isolate and continue to work remotely.

Also Thursday, the French Ministry of Health announced that at least 600,000 people will lose their health cards on January 15 because they have not received their reminders.

As of Wednesday, 15.2 million people had received the booster, out of 15.9 million who were eligible, the health ministry said. Meanwhile, some 77,500 teachers have joined a strike against school health protocol.

According to the Ministry of Education, a total of 136 demonstrations were organized across the country, with 8,200 people marching in the city of Paris alone. France reported on Thursday 305,322 new cases of COVID-19 detected in the past 24 hours.
