Dr. Rontgene Solante, at the Laging Handa public briefing on Monday July 11, said the use of boosters in the country is still very low, at less than 20% of the target population. This is also low compared to the increased populations of other countries like Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

According to Solante, these countries have reached 50% of the target population in terms of booster doses. He added that these countries are also implementing a similar vaccination program, but uptake in the Philippines remains low.

“So I think it’s high time we had to impose the booster vaccination on the general population,” he said.

“Kailangan (It must be) compulsory na siguro para lang ma-increase natin ang (I think, so that we can increase our) protection especially now that we are preparing for face-to-face classes in November and the workplaces are also open now,” he added.

On the other hand, Solante mentioned that a small increase in Covid-19 cases is currently underway as the positivity rate and the number of newly infected people based on that positivity rate is starting to increase.

He mentioned that it is now over 10%, especially in the National Capital Region.
