Comelec will review the endorsement of the candidate reported by the President of CHED
MANILA, Philippines – The Electoral Commission (Comelec) assured yesterday that it will look into the matter raised by Kontra Daya against the Chairman of the Commission for Higher Education (CHED), Prospero de Vera III, for allegedly endorsing a candidate for the vice-presidency and five others for the senator on a virtual forum.
Comelec spokesman John Rex Laudiangco said he would contact Professor Danilo Arao, host of Kontra Daya, for information on the allegations they have made against De Vera.
Laudiangco, who is also the head of the commission’s legal department, said he personally did not receive a copy of the complaint.
“I will get in touch with him (Dr Arao) so we can start the process. We are grateful to him for bringing this to our attention,” he said.
According to a report, Arao said De Vera made the endorsement as part of the sixth episode of CHED’s PILI-PinaSkolar Halalan voter education forum series broadcast via Facebook Live.
He reportedly endorsed Davao Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, vice-presidential candidate, and senatorial candidates Gringo Honasan, Gilbert Teodoro, Manny Piñol, Loren Legarda and Herbert Bautista on his Facebook account.
Laudiangco said that while it is true that government resources were used to support these candidates, it could be considered an election violation.
