Carlos Defends Arrest of Community Doctor – Manila Bulletin

Carlos defends the arrest of a community doctor

General Dionardo Carlos, head of the Philippine National Police (PNP), on Sunday (February 20th) defended the police operation that led to the arrest of community doctor Maria Natividad Castro in San Juan City.

Carlos said they expected backlash, especially from loved ones, but insisted it was a legitimate operation.

He was reacting to statements from Castro’s relatives, saying that the police had forced their way into the house occupied by the doctor and that the arrest warrant did not have a specific name.

“They will always say something that would defend what was the subject of the arrest warrant. But in the end, what was our base? What was the legal order of the court? said Carlos.

“If there is a legal order from a competent court as law enforcement, we follow it. Everyone will say their innocence,” he added.

Castro was arrested based on the arrest warrant issued by a regional trial court in Bayugan City for a serious unlawful detention kidnapping case involving a government militiaman in 2018. No bail has been recommended .

In a statement, the PNP described Castro as a high-ranking officer of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

Carlos then advised those questioning the operation to raise their concerns in court.

After his arrest, Castro was immediately airlifted to Agusan del Sur.
